This is perhaps not the most serious blog posting, but important nonetheless. Fruit flies have invaded our home. One of the side effects of buying a ton of produce each week is that our counters are full of fruits and veggies (ordinarily a terrific thing). We refrigerate what needs to be kept chilled and the rest sits in bowls on our counters or just laying in neat piles on the counter itself. Unfortunately, last week I bought 2 too many bananas and didn’t realize that they had started to go bad – enter the fruit flies. As tired as we are around our house we didn’t notice them for a couple of days, but that can’t be said now. Now we have multiple families of fruit flies sharing our space and the MUST go. So what should you do if you find yourself in a similar situation? Well, we asked our cat to catch them but she is having some trouble so we opted for a more practical approach. We have several small bowls throughout our house with a mixtures of apple cider vinegar and a couple drops of liquid dish soap. I was a bit skeptical of the efficacy of something so simple at first. Now, I am a believer! We walk by the bowls and each time we see another couple of fruit flies who have met their (un)timely demise.
Goodbye Fruit Flies!
